Helping Latrobe Valley Sports Clubs Survive and ThriveTwo grants of $1,000 to provide support to help clubs pay the bills. By Portal Admin - 25th July 2020 - Back to News Community sport in the Latrobe Valley is an integral part of our community and that’s why the Victorian Government is providing this critical support to help clubs pay the bills and make a return to play that little bit easier.
Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today announced two grants of $1,000 have so far been approved in the electorate from the Government’s Community Sport Sector COVID-19 Survival Package.
The successful clubs are the Traralgon Pony Club Inc and the Traralgon Branch of the Victorian Field and Game Association.
These grants from the Government’s $40 million community sport package will make it that little bit easier for clubs to support players and volunteers.
With the recent significant increase in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Melbourne, and active cases in many regional communities, Victorians have been hit hard by restrictions and sport and active recreation clubs and associations are no exception.
Victoria’s Chief Health Officer has determined that Melbourne and Mitchell Shire residents cannot participate in community sport competition, and in regional Victoria training must remain non-contact for adult competitions.
The Victorian Government will continue to work with the sport and recreation sector to explore recovery options and help clubs return to play when it is safe to do so.
Grants like these are a key part of the Government’s investment in supporting the community in these challenging times.
With more than three million Victorians involved in community sport and recreation, we know that getting back on the field or court is important to Victorians – that’s why we are getting behind 12,000 clubs and associations across the state.
The Government is also getting on with shovel-ready community sport and active recreation infrastructure projects across the state, investing $68 million to stimulate jobs and economic activity and deliver fantastic new projects to local communities as part of the new $2.7 billion Building Works package.
