Loch Sport foreshore erosion prevention gets $5M election pledge from Victorian NationalsOngoing concerns for the erosion at Loch Sport's foreshore will finally be addressed if The Nationals are elected to government in November. By news@gippsland - 19th October 2022 - Back to News The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien has announced a $5 million commitment to implement action to stop further erosion on the Lake Victoria foreshore. "We need immediate action to stop the erosion from progressing any further, particularly around Seagull Drive and Toorak Avenue, and The Nationals in government will ensure the funds are available to make that happen," Mr O'Brien said.

While Labor has continued to dither, we have seen the need to relocate the walking track in the Seagull Drive and Boulevard areas due to erosion." "And now the Seagull Drive carpark and toilet are even under threat. It's just a matter of time before there are further incursions onto public land and ultimately onto private land if action isn't taken." Mr O'Brien continued. Take the surveyMr O'Brien said a public survey has now been undertaken after the release of the latest technical report on solutions, which can be found at Loch Sport Foreshore Coastal Erosion page. "This survey is based on the findings of the Loch Sport Foreshore Coastal Processes and Options Assessment Report and offers a number of paths forward to address erosion - each with varying costs and effectiveness," Mr O'Brien said. "We will honour that engagement process, but the strong feedback from the community and the report itself is that groynes work and will halt the erosion. I am open to trialling new methods such as shellfish reefs, but not at the expense of any further delays." "All the reports and surveys in the world are pointless if the money isn't there to implement the outcome.
