The Catholic College Junior Football Club. Proudly sponsored by RETRAVISION Sale & Traralgon. The College Junior Football Club THANKS all it's generous sponsors for the up-coming 2008 Season, and for their continued support. By Karen Cashman - 17th April 2008 - Back to News With 2 teams entered into each the under 10's, under 12's and under 14's age groups for the Competition in 2008, the College Junior Football Club is excited about competing in the Sale & District Junior Football Association matches in the forthcoming year.
College Junior Football Club, has a coaching panel to be admired, with the likes of Justin Dessent, Darren Hall, Steve Centra, Ben Dowsett, Jim Collins, Greg Thomson, Dean Benson, John Collins, Jamie Gray, Damian Hogan and Anthony Robbins - and their many experienced helpers. The combined years of experience with this coaching panel will give all the players at the Club great knowledge, encouragement and enjoyment. The aim of the College Junior Football Club is to offer the players a safe and healthy sporting environment, where they can mingle with their mates, meet new friends from around the district, learn some awesome skills and become familiar with the family based club that we are so proud of. The emphasis the Club is to continue to provide the players and their families participation at all levels, sportsmanship, as well as respect for fellow team mates, the coaching staff, the umpires, the supporters and their opposition.
We take pride, "on-field" and "off-field" in the generosity, kindness and consideration of our Sponsors, and offer support to the Companies wherever possible. The names of all Club sponsors are proudly displayed on our Sponsors Board each week, and also recognised in the Clubs newsletters.
A few additional sponsors have re-joined the team at the Club this week with 1 Newly listed Sponsor. The Budget Motel Chain have again put their hands up (in their pockets really), and continued to show their support for the club. 2 New Companies have joined the list on our Sponsors Board - Dahlsens Building Centre in Sale, and Bulls Cruisers in Paynesville. Thank you all for your support.
The first new section to our page will be the "Coaches corner", where you can read some interesting background information on our coaching panel. Where they started, where they played and who they played with. The first story will be based on the Head Under 14's Coach - Justin Dessent. Check out the "corner" after our sponsors list.

COACHES CORNER featuring JUSTIN DESSENT (aka JD)
Justin, played Junior footy with Sale up to U/15's, then followed the Dessent family tradition to play footy at Devon Football Club (now The Allies, DWWWW). He played senior football all that year (1987), playing in a senior premiership at age 15, alongside brothers Stephen and Dean. Justin also played in Country Victoria representative sides during this time.
At age 17 Justin was played for Maffra, where he was part of the losing grand final side in 1989. (Mind you, they only went down to leongatha by 2 points).
He continued to play at Maffra untill the end of 1994 when he decided head back to the "old stomping grounds" at Sale, to again, play with the mates he'd grown up with. Heading back to play at Sale wasn't made easy for him though. Justin could not get a clearnace from his previous club, and was forced to stand down from playing football for 6 months, finally getting a clearance on 20th June 1995 - the very evening that clearances closed - Wow!
Finally, cleared to play for Sale, and at seasons end, under coach Darren Hall, played in another Senior Grand Final team in 1996. Unfortunately, holding another runners up flag.
JD continued to play at Sale until 2002, when he had a well deserved rest - he says his body was getting old - then came back and played a season at Sale City in 2004.
Since "those playing days" Justin has undertaken various roles within the Sale Football Club, including Reserves assistant coach, Senior runner, trainer and currently serves as a member on the committee.
So, as you can see, the College Junior Football Club has gained the experience of a young coach, who has played football at high levels, and will be an incredible assett to the Club. The boys enjoy training under JD and will gain alot from his experience, both as a player, a Dad and a great coach.
WELCOME TO THE COLLEGE JUNIOR FOOTY CLUB JD!
