Monitor’S Assignment At Latrobe City Complete
Latrobe City Council has received formal advice that the appointment of Mr Lyndon Webb, the independent Monitor appointed by the previous Minister for Local Government, has now concluded.
Latrobe City mayor, Cr Dale Harriman, said that Council had been advised that Mr Webb’s appointment would not be continuing past the initial end date of 31 December 2014.
"Council is very pleased that Local Government Victoria has acknowledged that we have taken several steps to strengthen our capacity to deliver good governance, as identified in the regular reports to the Minister for Local Government by Mr Webb.
"Latrobe City Council requested this appointment to assist us to improve governance and daily operations, with a focus on our processes and policies. Council proactively worked with Mr Webb and it is positive that the changes that have been put in place, including the appointment of our new chief executive officer, Mr Gary van Driel, have been recognised.
"Council would like to thank Mr Webb for his assistance over the last four months and share Local Government Victoria’s confidence that we are in a strong position to address any future issues which may arise." Cr Harriman concluded.
Mr Webb was initially appointed as independent monitor to Latrobe City Council by the former Minister for Local Government, Mr Tim Bull, on 20 August 2015. He had previously served as CEO of Wellington and Towong councils and had experience in reforming troubled organisations, most recently at Brimbank and Darebin.
