Living With Wildlife WorkshopPhillip Island is a wildlife haven and that means that we all live with wildlife on a daily basis. By Phillip Island Nature Parks - 10th April 2012 - Back to News On Tuesday 17 April, Phillip Island Nature Parks is hosting a ‘Living with Wildlife Workshop’. The workshop will bring together key organisations that manage wildlife on the island to present information and answer your questions.
The two-hour workshop will include presentations from all relevant management organisations including Phillip Island Nature Parks, Bass Coast Shire Council, Department of Sustainability and Environment and Landcare. Representatives from Vic Roads will also be there to answer questions about wildlife interacting with roads and road reserves.
"The aim of the workshop is to clarify each organisation’s responsibility around the issue of wildlife," said Matthew Jackson, Phillip Island Nature Parks’ Chief Executive Officer.
"Living with wildlife ranges from preventing animals from being hit on the roads through to what to do if you find an injured penguin. This is a great opportunity to get relevant managers together in one room and for the community to learn how we are working to protect wildlife on Phillip Island," said Mr Jackson.
Bass Coast Shire Council will also present on the day. Allan Bawden, Chief Executive Officer, Bass Coast Shire Council said: "Phillip Island is a fantastic wildlife area and I know for many people, it is one of the attractions of living or visiting there. Finding a way to manage the needs of our community with the conservation of our wildlife can be a challenge, but it is very important that we find a way to coexist."
"This is the first time many of the different groups responsible for managing wildlife have come together to have a collaborative approach to this subject. It is also an opportunity for the community to find out what each agency is responsible and to have input into our future approach. Council is very pleased to be part of this initiative and I really encourage the community to come along to this forum," said Mr Bawden.
The Living with Wildlife workshop will be held on Tuesday 17 April between 10am and 12pm at the Chisholm Education Centre, located next door to the Koala Conservation Centre Visitor Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend and no booking or registration is required.
