Cricket Victoria Pads Up To Get The Fire Message Into Morwell Member for Morwell Russell Northe today joined development coaches from Cricket Victoria to test the skill of Morwell Primary School students and increase awareness of fire risk among local parents. By Russell Northe - 19th December 2013 - Back to News Cricket Victoria is a key partner in the Victorian Government¡¦s Summer Fire Campaign, running clinics in areas of high fire risk across Victoria and supporting CFA to deliver vital fire safety messages.
¡§Locals in Morwell and other Victorians should be able to enjoy their sport over summer, but they should also know that the threat of fire is real across the Latrobe Valley and Gippsland,¡¨ Mr Northe said.
¡§Locals know the damage fire can cause and that fire risk is always present.
¡§It¡¦s great that Cricket Victoria is partnering with the Victorian Government to draw attention to fire safety by sending out their development coaches to put the kids through their paces, while CFA is at the sidelines to talk to parents about fire risk.¡¨
Mr Northe said all Victorians needed to understand the kind of fire risk they faced during summer and prepare accordingly.
The Victorian Government¡¦s Summer Fire Campaign includes a number of important messages on fire safety:
„h leaving early is the safest option to protect yourself and your family
„h pack important documents, photos, medications, money and clothes so you can get away quickly before a fire starts
„h talk to your household about how you¡¦ll know when to leave and where to go to stay safe
„h do you have family, friends or neighbours who need help preparing to leave early? Talk to them about when they¡¦re going to leave, where they¡¦re going to go, and how you can help
„h use Fire Danger Ratings to decide when to leave. Fire Danger Ratings are not a weather forecast ¡V they tell you how bad a fire would be if one started. As the ratings increase, so does your risk of fire
„h this summer, you could be at serious risk of uncontrollable fires on Severe, Extreme and Code Red days. Pay attention to the ratings and act to protect yourself and your family
¡§Fire safety is everyone¡¦s responsibility, so I urge locals to take the time to make some simple preparations,¡¨ Mr Northe said.
