Forum To Provide Detailed Insight Into Car Park ProjectA public information forum will be conducted at 7.15pm on Tuesday 17 April at the Traralgon Little Theatre By Latrobe City Shire Council - 12th April 2007 - Back to News to give all interested persons a thorough insight into the Seymour Street car park project, including the car park layout and project timetable.
Work commences on the new car park next Monday, and council has written to Traralgon businesses this week to keep them informed of progress in relation to the car park and the associated retail outlet development taking place.
From Monday, parking in the existing Seymour Street car park will cease, to accommodate the construction of the new facility, and billboards showing alternative car parking venues are being erected.
Latrobe City’s manager marketing and communications, Grantley Switzer, said that in recognising the construction works will temporarily impact on parking, Latrobe City has produced a map which highlights alternative parking availability in the CBD for business owners and shoppers. "These alternative car parking areas are a mixture of public council-owned car parks and privately leased and owned car parks.
"However, it is important that businesses and shoppers understand that the current parking regulations and restrictions for all on and off street parking will remain in place, so please take care to observe all signage at these sites," Mr Switzer said.
"The project is being undertaken during the quieter commercial season and as business builds towards the Christmas trading period, car park spaces in Seymour Street will become available again. When completed, the project will provide more than double the car parking spaces currently available on the site."
Mr Switzer said that as the current public toilets in Seymour Street will be demolished as part of the overall development, temporary public toilets have been created near the National Australia Bank, approximately 20 metres from their current location.
"Phelans Lane will remain open during the construction phase, allowing vehicle access to the rear of Franklin Street business for property owners, for deliveries, and for access to the hotel bottle shop. Resurfacing of Phelans Lane will be completed in the next few days," Mr Switzer said.
Mr Switzer added that as part of the car park and retail development, there will be opportunities for organisations to lease individual car spaces on the first floor of the new car park. "Details of these lease opportunities will be announced at Tuesday’s forum and will also appear on council’s website."
Maps highlighting alternative parking in the Traralgon CBD can be downloaded from council’s website www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/services/projects or are available from council’s service centre in the Traralgon civic precinct.
Further information on the project, which will include regular updates during the construction period, is also available at www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/services/projects.
