Latrobe City artists are invited to submit applications to be in the running to win a free two week exhibition at the Latrobe Regional Gallery.

By Latrobe Shire Council - 6th June 2007 - Back to News

Gallery Director, Jacqui Hemsley said that the prize, in honour of the late Richard (Dick) Bishop, includes assistance by gallery staff in all aspects of exhibition organisation including invitations, advertising, exhibition installation and an opening night.

"The total value of the package is $1800. It is a great opportunity for a local artist to experience the excitement of holding their own exhibition and to really get their work and name out into the public arena.

"The successful artist will showcase their work from 18 October to 5 November 2007 in the International Power Hazelwood Community Access Gallery," Ms Hemsley explained.

Ms Hemsley said that the award recognises the passion that Dick Bishop had for supporting emerging artists.

"Dick Bishop became instrumental in establishing the Diploma of Art course at the Morwell Technical School. He also initiated ‘The Jason Club’ the forerunner to the Latrobe Valley Gallery Society and is considered one of the founders of the Latrobe Regional Gallery," Ms Hemsley explained.

"To be in the running for the Dick Bishop Memorial Prize, applicants must be a current resident of Latrobe City and submit only recent work produced in the last 12 months.

"The award is open to emerging artists of any age, may be in any medium and can be submitted by individuals or groups. Entries close Friday 17 August 2007," Ms Hemsley concluded.
