Mr Northe said old cleaning products, left-over fuels, pesticides and weedkillers stored around the home can pose a risk to family and pets and should be safely disposed of without putting a strain on the environment.

¡§This is a very important and useful free service that all Latrobe City residents should take full advantage of,¡¨ Mr Northe said.

¡§I¡¦d encourage all residents to go through cupboards and backyard sheds and get rid of any old products that would be difficult to dispose of without this unique service.¡¨

Latrobe City Council¡¦s mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson believes that in order to keep the community safe, clean and free of potentially dangerous household chemicals the community needs to be proactive and aware.

¡§Tell your family, friends and neighbours about the free service available in Morwell. Here is an opportunity to help the environment without dipping into our pockets ¡V so make sure you register to benefit from this service,¡¨ Cr Gibson said.

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith said the Victorian Coalition Government is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all Victorians.

¡§This is a great free service for all Victorian householders so that they can dispose of household chemicals safely without harming human health or the environment and diverts the waste from ending up in landfill,¡¨ Mr Smith said.

¡§The Coalition Government recognises the value of a combined effort between government, households and local councils to act responsibly and dispose of potentially harmful and dangerous waste.
