Brumby Gets It Wrong On Toora Manufacturing PlantLiberal Member for Gippsland Province Philip Davis is astounded the Bracks Government last week distributed information regarding a dental health product, enterprise, touting it was manufactured in Toora. By Philip Davis - 18th August 2005 - Back to News Mr Davis said he attended the awarding of the prestigious Victoria Prize at Government House last week where Professor Eric Reynolds from Melbourne University was deservedly presented with the award for his work in preventative dentistry.
"How strange it was that the presentation by the Minister for Innovation, John Brumby, included an audio visual presentation and glossy brochures of the Professor’s dental technology producing a product called Recaldent from Toora," Mr Davis.
"The official program distributed by Minister Brumby stated Recaldent was manufactured in Toora, generating many millions of dollars annually in export revenue for Victoria.
"But further investigation has revealed Recaldent has not been manufactured in Toora for some time.
"It is now produced by Cadbury Schweppes at its Scoresby plant."
Mr Davis said while this did not take away from Professor Reynolds’ achievements, the presentation of the award was misleading to those attending and the South Gippsland community.
