The exhibition ‘My journey through painting’ demonstrates Margaret Kettels’ development as an artist. Ms Kettels shows the interest she has had in various styles over the years ranging from realism to self expressionism.

Now based in Melbourne, Margaret Kettels was born in Morwell and brought up on a dairy farm in the Latrobe Valley. In her exhibition she shares her art with her hometown community. A painting of the Hazelwood power station produced on site from Jeeralang many years ago will be included.

Latrobe Regional Gallery dirwector, Louise Tegart, said Margaret Kettels has always had a keen interest in art and has undertaken various private art classes including six years at Montsalvat and has spent time painting in England, Scotland and Austria.

"She has won numerous prizes in art society and community exhibitions in her district and is a signatory member of the Victorian Artists Society. As a member of the International Women’s Artists Association Margaret Kettels is one of fifteen women chosen to be included in their biannual exhibition to be held in Korea later this year.

"Depicting a wide range of subjects including the figure, Ms Kettels uses oil, acrylic and mixed media to produce images that allow her the freedom of self expression. She has developed a passion for rich and vibrant colour which is evident in these works," Ms Tegart said.

Members of the public are encouraged to view the works and meet the artist in an informal setting on Saturday 13 May. Margaret Kettels will be at the Gallery from 1pm to 4pm.

My journey through painting continues until Sunday 28 May 2006.

Latrobe Regional Gallery is located at 138 Commercial Road, Morwell, and is open Monday to Friday 10am-5pm, and on weekends 11am–4pm. The gallery is closed public holidays. For further information about exhibitions at the gallery, please telephone 5128 5700. Admission is free.
