By Russell Northe - 15th August 2011 - Back to News

Mr Northe said the Traralgon East CFA was among more than 190 volunteer emergency

services units across Victoria to receive funding under the $11.6m Volunteer Emergency

Services Equipment Program (VESEP).

"Our local emergency services volunteers comment provide a very important role in our

community in the face of difficult circumstances," Mr Northe said.

"It is important our emergency services teams can be equipped with the right tools, to ensure

they can perform their duties to the best of their ability.

"The Traralgon East CFA has received a Toyota Landcruiser, which provides the unit with

valuable support which will enhance their capacity to continue to protect life and property, all

year round," Mr Northe said.

Mr Northe said the Traralgon East CFA would also receive a $1500 equipment grant and

also $5000 for equipment specifically suited to their needs.

"Members can use this funding for items such as training aids, station items, operational

equipment and more," Mr Northe said.

"It is vital that brigades such as Traralgon East had the best equipment possible to continue

their essential work in the community.

"Local agencies are the backbone of Victoria’s emergency services and the State

Government recognises the important role emergency services volunteers’ play," he said.

"I applaud Traralgon East CFA and its members for their continued dedication and

commitment, particularly during challenging times."

"Volunteers in the Traralgon East CFA give up their valuable time to respond to emergencies

and were selfless in their efforts to protect lives and property during the 2009 bushfires.

"They are deserved recipients of funding, and this is a great example of the way the

community, government and emergency services agencies can work together to ensure that

we are best placed to respond to emergencies."
