Latrobe City budget endorsed by Council

Latrobe City’s 2005/2006 budget passed through Council on Monday night without amendment.

By Latrobe City Council - 8th June 2005 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s general rates will rise by 2.5% in the 2005-2006 financial year, which is below the consumer price index (CPI).

The rate rise is the lowest of any municipal council in Gippsland and is anticipated to be among the lowest local government rate rises in Victoria.

Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, said Latrobe City’s 2005-2006 budget has been recognised as responsible, prudent and progressive.

"This budget also contains the largest capital spend honing in on important work in our municipality with a $28 million capital works program," Mr Buckley said.

"Spending deliberately targets maintaining and improving infrastructure such as roads, drains, bridges, footpaths, street trees, playgrounds and libraries.

"The 2005/2006 budget has been prepared on the basis of constraint, with the review and implementation of the key strategic actions of Latrobe 2021 - The Vision For Latrobe Valley, being a key focus in 2005-2006," Mr Buckley added.
