Gender Equality Action Plan to ensure Latrobe City Council has everyone having equal opportunities and safe workplace
Latrobe City Council has developed a Gender Equality Action Plan in line with the Gender Equality Act 2020.
The development of this plan was informed by the results of a workforce gender audit conducted in June 2021 and submitted to the Commission for Gender Equality. The Gender Equality Action Plan will guide Latrobe City as an employer of choice to ensure everyone is valued and enjoys equal opportunities, regardless of gender.
Gender Equality Action Plan aims to imbed gender equality in our everyday work by driving inclusive policies and programs that build a safe and fair workplace and community
Culture of gender equality
Latrobe City Council Chief Executive Officer Steven Piasente said the Gender Equality Action Plan represented the organisation's commitment to gender equality. "This is a four-year plan that outlines how we will work together to embed a culture of gender equality within our organisation, from strategy right through to day-to-day operations."
"In developing the Gender Equality Action Plan, we heard our people's experiences relating to gender and diversity and looked at our systems, policies, facilities and procedures through a gender lens."
"These experiences are acknowledged and addressed in this plan, ensuring that we deliver on our actions with integrity and accountability while strengthening the work we have already done," said Mr Piasente.
Gender Equality Action Plan
The Gender Equality Action Plan includes seven Workplace Gender Equality Indicators and Actions, including:
- Gender composition of all levels of the workforce
- Gender composition of governing bodies
- Equal remuneration for work of equal or comparable value across all levels of the workforce irrespective of gender
- Sexual harassment in the workplace
- Recruitment and promotion in the workplace
- Availability and utilisation of family violence leave, flexible working arrangements, working arrangements supporting workers with family or caring responsibilities
- Gendered segregation within the workplace
