Face Of Seymour Street Changing As Car Park Takes ShapePrecast panels being erected at Traralgon’s new car park are rapidly changing the face of Seymour Street, as work gathers pace. By Latrobe City Council - 4th July 2007 - Back to News Latrobe City’s acting manager infrastructure operations, Grantley Switzer, said the project had now reached an exciting stage.
"Prior to this, the works being undertaken were less obvious as these works related to the installation of sub structure works such as new mains sewer and water. However, the largest component has been the undergrounding of the electricity and installation of a new substation. The eastern end of Seymour Street was one of the last remaining areas within the CBD where above ground power poles were still present," Mr Switzer explained.
"Now that the precast work has started people are able to see the scale of the development taking place.
"Despite some inclement weather, the building program is slightly ahead of schedule and is certainly well on track to be fully operational by the end of January 2008," Mr Switzer said.
"Of the five retail outlets being developed within the car park structure, all five have been pre-leased. These outlets will be a mixture of existing Traralgon businesses who are expanding and a few that will be brand new to the region.
"There are also some car parking spaces still available for lease. Interested parties should contact Rob Wilson Real Estate in Traralgon for further information," Mr Switzer added.
Mr Switzer said that over the coming weeks, the form work for the first deck would be started and the project will reach another critical milestone.
"Council would like to commend the community for its cooperation during this time as we understand there has been considerable inconvenience. Visitors to the CBD are also reminded that all-day free parking is available at a temporary car park at the Old Mannys Market site - corner of Franklin and Grey streets," Mr Switzer concluded.
