Discounts For Working Seniors In The Morwell Electorate The Victorian Coalition Government will expand the Victorian Seniors Card program in 2015 to provide business discounts to more than 160,000 seniors who are still working 35 hours or more per week, By Russell North - 28th October 2014 - Back to News Member for Morwell Russell Northe announced today, during the 2014 Victorian Seniors Festival. "This is a significant expansion that will provide access to a wide range of business discounts currently enjoyed by more than 940,000 Victorian Seniors Card holders," Mr Northe said. Currently, more than 4000 businesses across Victoria participate in the Seniors Card business discount program, with most offering a minimum of 10% discount on goods and services. "As our population ages and people continue to enjoy longer and more active lives, many people over the age of 60 are continuing to remain in full time employment, and the new Seniors Business Discount Card is a way of recognising this trend and extending some of the Seniors Card program benefits to this group of Victorians," Mr Northe said. The announcement follows the Coalition Government’s partnership with energy retailer AGL to offer discounted retail energy plans to Victorian Seniors Card Holders. "The AGL Discount Energy Plan is just one of many business discounts that will be offered to holders of the new Seniors Business Discount Card when it is introduced," Mr Northe said. The new Seniors Business Discount Card is part of the Victorian Government’s recently released Seniors Count! – the Seniors Participation Action Plan 2014 – 2019, which, is backed by additional funding of $5 million and outlines priority areas to better support seniors and create more age-friendly communities. Mr Northe said that Seniors Count! builds upon the actions and initiatives already underway across Government to support senior Victorians. The Seniors Business Discount Card will be available in 2015 to applicants who are aged 60 or over and permanent residents of Australia living Victoria, and who are working 35 hours or more per week.
