Latrobe Leisure Learn To Swim Teacher Wins Victorian AwardLatrobe Leisure Moe Newborough Learn to Swim teacher, Kattie Bloomfield, was announced winner of the 2012 Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety, . By Latrobe City - 8th June 2012 - Back to News at the annual Victorian Aquatics and Recreation Awards held last week.
This award recognises the outstanding contribution by an individual to the teaching of swimming and water safety, including teaching effectiveness, professional development, leadership and commitment to excellence.
Latrobe City’s general manager recreation culture and community infrastructure, Grantley Switzer, said that Kattie had been a Learn to Swim leader for a number of years and recently commenced as Learn to Swim Supervisor at Moe/Newborough.
"This award was thoroughly deserved as Kattie has added significant value to the learn to swim program and more importantly, had a positive effect on all the participants that have come through the program over the years.
"Being a learn to swim teacher is a rewarding job with the constant interaction between the students, their families and the teacher, and of course the ongoing improvements in a students’ skill development; but to be recognised by your peers in the industry is especially gratifying," Mr Switzer said.
Mr Switzer said Latrobe Leisure was nominated in four other categories including: Innovative Program, Most Valuable Employee Group Exercise Instructor and Swim School.
"Competition in all categories is always extremely high and this year was no exception. However, it was extremely satisfying and exciting to share Kattie’s success and to see Latrobe Leisure taking away its first ever ARV award.
"All Latrobe Leisure staff are committed to providing a high quality program of activities across all areas and all leisure facilities. To get some industry recognition is a boost to all those who put so much of their energy into their work," Mr Switzer concluded.
