Work to start on Corporate HeadquartersWork will begin on Latrobe City’s new corporate headquarters in Morwell this weekend. By Latrobe City Council - 24th July 2003 - Back to News Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hancock, said site preparation works would commence at the weekend paving the way for the construction of the $9.3million corporate headquarters building.
"The site preparation works include the removal of vegetation that was planted at one stage to screen the railway goods yards. Following preparation work, the site will be fenced to allow the full scale works program to commence.
Mr Hancock said alternative arrangements for all-day parking would be publicised early next week, with a perimeter fence for the construction site being erected during the first weekend of August.
"While construction of the new corporate headquarters is taking place, off-street parking adjacent to Commercial Road is going to be limited. We have discussed parking issues with local business organisations to ensure there is minimum inconvenience and that any effect on commercial activity is negated," Mr Hancock said.
"It will be very important that those who work in retail establishments and offices in the CBD recognise the need for short-term parking space to remain a priority for shoppers, so that economic activity in the CBD continues to operate as normal," Mr Hancock said.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Graeme Middlemiss, welcomed the commencement of work on the corporate headquarters. "No construction site is particularly attractive, and we ask for patience while work is underway. Short-term vegetation removal adds to the unattractiveness of any construction site, but there has been an excellent landscaping plan approved as part of the corporate headquarters project that will ultimately deliver a very attractive precinct for the people of Latrobe," Cr Middlemiss said.
"Progress reports will be regularly provided to the community. In the meantime, we welcome people taking an interest in the work being carried out and viewing the ongoing works," Cr Middlemiss said.
