Grants Available to Preserve Local History
Encouraging local historians to apply for a share in $350,000 to preserve, record and share history.
Member for Morwell, Russell Northe is encouraging local historians and community groups across the Gippsland region to apply for a share in $350,000 to preserve, record and share Victoria’s rich history.
"The latest round of the Local History Grants Program is now open and accepting grant applications of up to $15,000 per project, and this provides a great opportunity for local organisations and community groups to modernise, maintain and restore our rich local history" Mr Northe said.
"The previous round of the Local History Grants Program as managed by Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) saw 53 community groups across Victoria share a variety of local history projects" Mr Northe continued.
Projects that may be eligible for funding include:
- Online projects that provide local history information or resources including exhibitions and websites
- The design and production of interpretation panels and signage for heritage sites and Walks
- Cataloguing of objects and records
- The recording of oral histories
- The preparation of local history e-publications
"The Program supports the efforts of the many community groups and organisations that collect and preserve the materials and memories from Victoria’s past. It aims to encourage collaboration and partnerships between volunteer groups to undertake projects (e.g. oral history, digitising, and interpretation) as well as to develop skills and resources to support community collections" Mr Northe said.
Community groups can apply for funding from today via the following website: https://prov.vic.gov.au/community/grants-and-awards/local-history-grants-program
Applications close at midnight on Tuesday 9 March 2021.
PROV will also hold an online information session this Thursday 21 January 2021 at 6pm.
If you'd like more information about the program via the online information session, then you can register your interest on the PROV website.
