Pylon Tree To Be Installed At The Gallery The Pylon Tree sculpture created using recycled power pylon and other materials recycled from the electricity grid will be installed at the Latrobe Regional Gallery from 26 to 28 August 2009. By Latrobe City Council - 26th August 2009 - Back to News The 4.5 metre creation as part of The Grid project is the centrepiece of ‘Cocoon’, an arts installation project giving artistic expression to community views, and their unique relationship to climate change and electricity generation.
Local artist Shaun Gardner and community artist Stefanie Robinson were commissioned to design and construct the tree.
The pair conducted a series of community arts workshops to create the branches and leaves.
The branches have been woven using wire and other materials recycled from the grid.
The leaves are etched with the thoughts and feelings of the community about climate change, and their hopes and dreams for the future.
The installation will feature work by students from Tobruk Primary School, St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School and Gippsland Koori TAFE Unit.
The installation will also feature a street performance by the Regenerators; a performance by the Coal Valley Men’s Choir, and a graphic representation of results from an on-line climate change survey.
Visitors to the Gallery will be invited to add their own thoughts and feelings about climate change by leaving their message on the Butterfly Wall.
Open for three days only from Wednesday, 26 August to Friday, 28 August, Latrobe Regional Gallery, Commercial Road, Morwell, 10am – 5pm daily.
