Morwell Library works completeFinishing touches to the Morwell Library front entrance upgrade have been delivered and the works are now complete. Latrobe City Council would like to thank the community for its patience as the project took shape. By Portal Admin - 5th December 2016 - Back to News Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said the library was now fully accessible.
"Libraries are at the heart of our community. They provide access to a wealth of learning and social opportunities, but the Morwell Library front entrance was not accessible, creating a barrier to some members of our community being able to use the facility and its resources.
"This project has delivered a fully compliant ramp, making it easier for those with mobility issues or parents and carers with children in prams or pushchairs, to come into the library. The disabled parking bay at the front of the building is a welcome addition, along with improvements to the footpath. The upgrade also included a new bike rack, a drinking water fountain, outside seating, a reconstructed planter box and landscape design and new paintwork outside," Cr O’Callaghan said.
"This sort of project supports the role of public libraries in strengthening our communities. Libraries should be a resource for everyone and the new-look Morwell Library certainly delivers on that statement.
The project received $140,000 funding from the Victorian Government Living Libraries Program and Council provided an additional $70,000.
