‘Access for All Netball’ will be held at the Morwell Leisure Centre between 1pm and 2.30pm.

The program encourages members of the community with a disability to participate in netball on a weekly basis, with the assistance of volunteer Sharon Rodgers.

Sharon has been working with Andrew Redston from Quantum for the last six weeks training the team every Friday morning between 10am and 11.30am, with the ultimate goal of establishing a team to take on similar groups.

Highlights of the ‘Warming up for the Games Day’ include the Hazelwood Pondage Pursuit and Latrobe Valley Yacht Club Open Day to be held at the Hazelwood Pondage.

The Boolarra Bowls Club is offering a free game of bowls and sausage sizzle and there are free come and try sessions for the Morwell Croquet Club, the Italian Australian Bocce Club, Traralgon Table Tennis Association and the Twin City Archers in Morwell. There are also free activities at the leisure centres in Churchill, Moe Newborough and Morwell.

Further activities include the Gippsland Regional Titles at the Joe Carmody Athletics Track in Newborough and Gippsland Heritage Park will be abuzz with activities from days gone by; marbles, egg and spoon races and even horseshoe throwing, and Victory Park will be the venue for ‘Catchment Week’ where activities will include creek walks and a barbecue.

Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Paul Buckley, said ‘Warming up for the Games’ is part of the Victorian Government’s Getting Involved program, helping communities make the most of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

"Activities will be taking place across the whole of Victoria on Sunday and in Latrobe City there are certainly plenty of opportunities at local sporting and leisure clubs for the community to join in and have a go. There’s plenty of fun to be had by trying something new activity or by getting together with your family to enjoy a fun day of activities in the local area," Mr Buckley said.

Full details on the activities for ‘Warming up for the Games Day’ appear in Thursday’s Latrobe Valley Express or are available from Council on 1300 367 700.
