Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Michael Rossiter, said that the Latrobe City Federation Training Expo was fast developing a reputation as the most anticipated early years’ event on the local calendar.

"Now in its sixth year, the Latrobe City Federation Training Children’s Expo has evolved into an event where parents and carers of young children can access advice, support and information in a friendly setting and bring their young charges with them. It’s a great day out both in terms of fun things for the kids to do and finding out answers to the kinds of questions that parenthood can raise.

"This year, there will be stallholders offering information about all manner of early childhood development, programs and support services. There will also be a wide range of fun activities for the children including face painting, a jumping castle a petting zoo, storytime, roving entertainment and much more.

"Sponsoring the event again this year, will be Federation Training. The Expo is an opportunity for the teachers and students from the organisation to take part in a ‘live’ experience where they can learn more about the industry in a relaxed setting," Cr Rossiter said.

Federation Training’s Education Manager, Carol Riley, said that the event was a must for parents and carers of young children.

"For first time parents, or even parents-to-be, who may be anxious to access information from service providers in this area, staff from Latrobe City Council, Federation Training and other industry representatives can provide that opportunity at the Children’s Expo.

"And of course, it’s a two-way engagement, as our own teachers and students learn from talking with parents and interacting with the children. The activities we set up for this event are organised by our students, so it’s a great learning experience for them.

"Federation Training offers early childhood courses and we have opened a new simulated childcare/early learning centre for students. We are working with the community to allow parents to come along, have a chat with other parents and carers whilst the children play for an hour. This gives the students invaluable hands-on experience before they go out on work placement. Attending the Expo means they have an additional opportunity to hone their skills," Ms Riley concluded.

The Latrobe City Federation Training Children’s Expo will take place at Kernot Hall, Morwell on Thursday 27 October from 10am to 3pm. Entry is free.
