On Saturday 17 January, the third box office hit in the series of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movies, ‘At Worlds End’, will be screening at the Loy Yang Power Latrobe Community Soundshell in Victory Park, Traralgon.

The film continues the story of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and follows his adventures on the high seas with Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley).

On Sunday 18 January, the animation adaptation of the famous Dr Seuss story ‘Horton Hears a Who’ will be shown at Gaskin Park in Churchill. ‘Horton Hears a Who’, features the voices of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell, and tells the story of Horton, an elephant (Jim Carrey), who discovers and then needs to save a microscopic community Whoville.

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Lisa Price, said Latrobe’s 2009 outdoor movie festival features great family movies for children and adults alike.

"Latrobe’s outdoor movie festival nights provide great opportunities for neighbourhoods and people to come together. The evenings bring young and old people together in a positive social environment, and of course are immense fun.

"Council is excited to once again be able to provide an event where whole families can enjoy each other’s company and of course some great entertainment. At the same time, numerous local community service groups benefit from these events by being able to provide refreshments and additional entertainment for those attending," Cr Price added.

Latrobe City’s senior events officer, Wendy Hrynyszyn, said that after a couple of weeks break, the outdoor cinema experience will return to Latrobe City with the outdoor movie festival continuing in Moe and Morwell over the first weekend in February.

On Friday 6 February, the Cinderella story ‘Enchanted’ will be on for all to see at Apex Park in Moe. A classic Disney fairytale collides with modern-day New York City in a story about a fairytale princess who is sent to our world by an evil queen. Soon after her arrival, Princess Giselle begins to change her views on life and love after meeting a handsome lawyer.

"Head down to Apex Park in Moe to see if a storybook view of romance can survive in the real world," Ms Hrynyszyn suggested.

On Saturday 7 February at the Town Common in Morwell, the hilarious movie ‘Get Smart’ will be shown. This 2008 update of the 1960s TV spy spoof is extremely funny with Agent Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) again needing to save the world from the evil KAOS agency. This comedy is one the whole family can enjoy.

Ms Hrynyszyn added that all movies begin at dusk, approximately 8.30pm, and are screened free of charge.

"Council invites all families to bring a rug and some chairs and enjoy a fantastic evening of free outdoor entertainment. There will be other activities to enjoy such as balloon sculpting, face painting, circus activities and there will be a range of food and refreshments available.

"Come along and join in the fun," Ms Hrynyszyn concluded.
