Road surface on Baxter-Tooradin Road to be rehabilitated after Pearcedale residents complain

Locals have had a big win on the surface degeneration occurring on the Baxter-Tooradin Road, Pearcedale from the South Gippsland Highway to the Fisheries Rd-Cannons Creek roundabout. The Nationals Member for Eastern Victoria Region, Melina Bath took the frustrations of Pearcedale residents to state parliament in June after locals complained to her about the disgraceful and unsafe condition of the road surface.

Road rehabilitation success

Ms Bath said, "The Roads and Roads Safety Minister has written to me, confirming that it will be finally rehabilitating the section of road between South Gippsland Highway and Fisheries Road to an 'as new' condition. I congratulated locals for their strong advocacy on this issue that has caused commuters so much concern for so long."

"Roads and road maintenance under Labor has been deplorable, and Pearcedale locals were justifiably concerned about driver safety and the damage being caused to their vehicles. While the upgrade is a win, it is astounding that four years ago, when this busy thoroughfare received a four million dollar upgrade, Labor failed to make fixing the road surface part of the project."

"Communities should not be forced to embarrass the Andrews government into action - roads and road safety should always be a high priority and should not be subjected to budget cuts like it has under Labor," she said.

Road surface updates

Ms Bath said she had been informed Pearcedale residents will have to wait until end of the year for the road surface works to be properly fixed, with the repairs also dependent on favourable weather conditions.

"I have also received undertaking from the Andrews government that necessary short term works will also be completed during this interim period to address the compromised road surface. I encourage commuters using the section of road between South Gippsland Highway and Fisheries Road and report specific road surface safety issues to both myself, and Regional Roads Victoria." Ms Bath said.
