Watch The Hunter At The Performing Arts CentreAs part of the National Film & Sound Archive of Australia’s Big Screen touring program, the Latrobe Performing Arts Centre will screen the AACTA Award-winning film The Hunter on Monday 16 April at 7pm. By Latrobe City - 5th April 2012 - Back to News Directed by Daniel Nettheim, written by Julia Leigh, Alice Addison and Wain Fimeri and starring Willem Dafoe, The Hunter is a powerful psychological drama rated M.
Latrobe City’s performing arts and venues coordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said that the movie was critically acclaimed.
"The film explores the story of a mercenary sent from Europe by a mysterious biotech company to the Tasmanian wilderness on a dramatic hunt for the last Tasmanian tiger.
"The movie picked up two AACTA awards for Best Cinematography and Best Original Music Score and has been described by David Stratton from At The Movies as ‘compelling and beautifully made’," Ms Roberts said.
"Latrobe Performing Arts Centre has worked with Big Screen for five years now, providing the community with access to Australian film culture. This model, which screens films regularly throughout the year rather than during film festival weekends, has become the model that Big Screen would like to use in other communities across Australia.
"The partnership works well for everyone. The NFSA can provide outreach to a regional community and the Performing Arts Centre provides the community access to valuable, interesting, yet affordable Australian culture," Ms Roberts concluded.
