Latrobe City To Host The Final Round Of The 2011 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships Latrobe City will host the final round of the 2011 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships at Blue Rock Motorcycling Club, Newborough this weekend, July 9 and 10. By Latrobe City - 11th July 2011 - Back to News Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White said that Latrobe City Council looks forward to renewing its bond with Motorcycling Victoria and witnessing first class riders in action.
"Last year we hosted the Victorian Junior Championships and the event was well received by the community. This year we welcome the Senior Championships and look forward to some exciting action," Cr White said.
Merton ward councillor, Councillor Sharon Gibson said that the event was another important addition to the Latrobe City events calendar.
"After such a well received junior event last year, we are really excited to now host the seniors who we know will attract a crowd.
"Because of the enthusiastic support of the local community for events like this, more and more organisers are choosing to host their events in Latrobe City, which is wonderful for our region," Cr Gibson explained.
Local motocross prodigy Jake Emanuelli is on course to win two state titles at the event in Newborough.
The 17-year-old from Bairnsdale is a top ten rider competing in the Under 19s category at the 2011 Rockstar MX Nationals, Australia’s premier motocross competition. Jake explained that he was looking for another win this weekend.
"I’ve got a pretty good points lead in both the A Lites and Under 19s classes at the moment, and I have just got to do what I have got to do at Newborough and come away with a win, hopefully," Jake said.
"I used to race four-wheelers when I was younger," Jake continued. "Then my sister started racing two-wheelers. My Dad gave me the opportunity to choose. I ended up picking the two-wheeler, and it basically led on from there."
"This year has been good. I’ve put a lot of time in off the bike with my fitness and that’s been helping out a lot," Jake remarked.
"I would like to come out with a top three at Newborough," Jake said.
"I wish Jake, and all of the other riders competing this weekend, luck and look forward to another exciting event for Latrobe City," Cr White concluded.
Round 4 of the 2011 Victorian Senior Motocross Championships will be held at Blue Rock Motorcycle Club along Coach Road, Newborough.
