Waterhole Creek Extension To Shared Path Network

Latrobe City Council recently completed another section of the all weather shared pathway project along the western side of Waterhole Creek, Morwell.

Latrobe City’s mayor, Councillor Bruce Lougheed said that the new section extended from the existing gravel at the car park at Morwell Park Primary School and connects to the existing pathway at Burnside Drive.

"The works also incorporated the construction of new kerbing to improve drainage and to provide better definition between the car park and the creek open space.

Latrobe City Councillor, Graeme Middlemiss said that the new path will complete the area along the west side of Waterhole Creek in Morwell.

"By upgrading the gravel section between Hourigan Road and the Morwell Park Primary School, and extending the concrete path from Budge Street to O’Grady Street, there will be a continuous link between Princes Drive and the sporting fields near Crinigan Road," Cr Middlemiss said.

Principal of Morwell Park Primary School, Chris Joustra, said that having the path upgraded has been a great advantage in terms of student safety.

"It is reassuring to know that the children are now able to ride on a designated path and do not need to ride on roadways during the busy school drop-off and pick-up times.

"It has also enabled us to use the circuit around the school in our health and fitness campaigns, such as the ‘moveathon’ held here recently," Mr Joustra said.

Cr Middlemiss said the project is part of Latrobe City’s new bicycle plan which aims to encourage greater participation in cycling as an activity for health, well-being and the social benefits it provides.

"As the children here at Morwell Park Primary School have proved with their ‘moveathon’, by providing a continuous path, residents are able to enjoy getting out to ride their bicycles and enjoy the health benefits associated with physical activity," Cr Middlemiss added.
