By news@gippsland - 21st September 2026 - Back to News Latrobe Regional Gallery will present five exhibitions this Spring featuring place, community, culture and the natural world. The Gallery's Spring program is now open and includes exhibitions by internationally recognised artists, local Gippsland artists, contemporary responses to historical traditions and installations connected to landscapes and history.
Sarah Tomasetti Geo-luminescence explores geology, light and time through pigments, wax and illuminated forms, drawing inspiration from the Latrobe Valley landscape Regional art exhibitionsGalleries 1 and 2Visitors can see Palm Tree Love, an exhibition featuring 11 Gippsland artists and works from the Latrobe Regional Gallery collection. The exhibition looks at the landmarks, memories and shared stories that help define regional communities, with a focus on the Twin Palm Trees of Morwell and their local identity. It includes sculpture, painting, photography, text, mural and sound, and considers change and belonging. Geo-luminescenceArtist Sarah Tomasetti presents an exhibition in Gallery 3 about geology, light and time. Using pigments, wax and illuminated suspended forms, the exhibition considers the relationship between water, stone and atmosphere. It draws on the geology of the Latrobe Valley and its role as an energy-producing region. Ukiyo-eResponding to Tradition is on display in Gallery 4. The exhibition pairs Japanese woodblock prints from the Latrobe Regional Gallery collection with contemporary works by artist TWOONE (Hiroyasu Tsuri). It shows the influence of the ukiyo-e tradition from Japan through contemporary art practice. Gallery 6Catherine Bainbridge: Continuum is a tribute to East Gippsland, its waterways, lands and skies. Spanning eight decades of work, the exhibition showcases the artist's connection to the elements and ecosystems from her youth to adulthood. Opening later in September in Gallery 5, Robert Lee Davis: Between the lands of now and then presents an exhibition of mixed-media works inspired by storytelling, memory and community. Drawing on past experiences, the artist creates a visual landscape that invites audiences to reflect on how places hold memories. Through collage, materials and imaginative narratives, the exhibition explores the connections between people, objects and the land. Spring exhibition programLatrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said the spring exhibition season offered something for everyone. "Latrobe Regional Gallery continues to present both thought-provoking and inspiring exhibitions for our community and visitors to the region. This spring program includes a range of art connected to local stories, culture, history and nature. It even highlights a local legend many may have forgotten about, the twin palm trees in Morwell." "There's a bit of everything in this program, like local stories, familiar places, Japanese art traditions and work inspired by the land around us. It's a good chance for people to come in, have a look around and learn something new about Latrobe City and beyond," Cr Gibson said. The Spring exhibitions were officially launched by the Mayor at the season opening on Saturday 19 September 2026. As part of the Ukiyo-e: Responding to Tradition exhibition, artist TWOONE will present a special workshop on Friday 25 September 2026.
