Labor invests $120,000 to modernise Traralgon Library with new study pods and improved community spacesHarriet Shing joined Latrobe City Mayor Cr Gibson and councillors to announce a $120,000 library upgrade, jointly funded by government and council By news@gippsland - 21st October 2026 - Back to News Labor is giving Traralgon Library a makeover built for the way locals learn, work and connect today. The $120,000 refurbishment delivers two new meeting and study pods, a redesigned service desk and new furniture throughout. Labor is investing $80,000 through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, with Latrobe City Council adding $40,000.
Harriet Shing joined Latrobe City Mayor Cr Gibson and councillors to announce a $120,000 library upgrade, jointly funded by government and council Traralgon library upgradesThe pods make room for more digital literacy classes, tutoring, workshops and community meetings. They also give locals a quiet place to study or work remotely. The redesign makes better use of the existing floor space and improves accessibility for everyone who walks through the door. Membership costs nothing. Over the past 12 years, Labor has invested $61.6 million in 191 library projects across Victoria. Jess Wilson's One Nation-Liberal coalition and their $40 billion cuts plan put local libraries at risk. Minister for Local Government Tim Richardson said, "Libraries are where kids learn to read, job seekers get online and neighbours become friends. These new pods give Traralgon locals more room to study, work and connect - right in the heart of town." Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "Our libraries play such an important and positive role for Gippslanders in all sorts of ways, and these upgrades will help more people to make the most of local facilities to work, study and connect."
