New Visitor Services Coordinator To RegionLori Worthy recently joined Bass Coast Shire Council in the role of Visitor Services Coordinator By Bass Coast Shire Council - 9th July 2002 - Back to News Lori Worthy recently joined Bass Coast Shire Council in the role of Visitor Services Coordinator. In her new role, Lori oversees the day to day running of the Wonthaggi and Inverloch Visitor Information Centres.
The centres provide a range of information about the Bass Coast region to visitors and locals alike.
During her first couple of months, Lori has been "flat out" working with volunteers at the centres and local tourism operators.
"While things are a bit quieter in relation to visitor numbers, staff at the centres have been doing familiarisation tours of local attractions and accommodation," said Lori. "This helps increase our product knowledge, giving us a close-up view of the attractions and accommodation that we recommend to visitors."
As well as the day to day operations of the centres, Lori is working on introducing a new accommodation booking system for Bass Coast Information Centres.
"I think one of the biggest challenges of the job will be building on the excellent working relationship that the centres have with local operators," said Lori. "These relationships are important as they ensure we can provide great service to customers, which flows on to the operator."
Much of Lori’s previous work history has involved tourism in Wonthaggi and Inverloch. She worked as a Ranger for Parks Victoria as well as a Customer Services Officer at the Wonthaggi State Coal Mine. She has also conducted tours and interpretation programs with Coast Action, Parks Victoria and private companies.
Lori replaced Euan Wightman, who now works at Wonthaggi Toyota.
