Latrobe Local News: East-west traffic options being examined by CouncilLatrobe City Council will examine options for alternative routes into Traralgon’s CBD By Latrobe City Council - 9th August 2001 - Back to News Tell us your opinion See what others have said Latrobe City Council will examine options for alternative routes into Traralgon’s CBD and the eastern end of town from the Crosses Road area.
Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Brendan Jenkins said that as Traralgon developed its residential quadrant north of Grey Street and west of Breed Street, there was a need to plan for the future and endeavour to keep one step ahead of any potential traffic problems likely to be encountered in future years.
"We are seeing considerable expansion and development in Traralgon which is excellent, and Council is keen to ensure that a quality of life including appropriate road access and services is part of that development. It makes sense to be looking at access alternatives now where these developments take place and not wait until congestion issues arise," Cr Jenkins said.
"While in this instance we are examining the option of alternative routes into the Traralgon CBD from the Crosses Road area, this will be done in consideration of options for a major east-west traffic link as an alternative for Grey Street. There is considerable residential expansion in the Franklin Park development, and there may be alternative links that could be considered," Cr Jenkins said.
"Our engineers will prepare a report for Council on the options they identify, and then obviously there would be a period of considerable public consultation and input into any proposals we may wish to examine further," Cr Jenkins added.
