By Bass Coast Shire Council - 12th December 2001 - Back to News The Inverloch Visitor Information Centre will reopen on Friday 14 December at a new location at 6 A’Beckett Street. The Centre will provide visitors with ideas, information and itineraries for their time in Bass Coast and Gippsland.
"Bass Coast Shire Council is delighted to have the Information Centre back in full swing in time for the summer influx of visitors," said Cr Miranda Sage, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council.
"Inverloch and Bass Coast is becoming and increasingly popular destination for holiday makers, and the new Centre will help people enjoy their time here," said Cr Sage.
"Many Melbournians will be looking at staying close to home these summer holidays due to the international events and the demise of Ansett," said Cr Sage. "Coastal towns such as Inverloch provide the perfect getaway that’s close to Melbourne."
The Centre will be stocked with information about the entire region from Phillip Island to Wilson’s Promontory. However, the emphasis will be on information about Inverloch’s local attractions including shops, eateries, services and accommodation.
Euan Wightman, Visitor Services Officer with Council, explained that volunteers are essential in operating the three Visitor Information Centres in Bass Coast.
"Volunteers from the previous Inverloch Visitor Information Centre are keen to get the new Centre open as soon as possible," said Euan. "We’re also looking for more eager volunteers to assist in the Centre."
Volunteers at the Centres have the opportunity to share their knowledge and love of the local area with visitors.
"Volunteering is not just about giving something back to the community, it is just as much about getting out, meeting new people and enjoying yourself," explained Denise English, Volunteer with the Inverloch Centre.
"The gratitude of weary and lost travellers is enormous when we are able to direct them to their destination or help them find what they are looking for," said Denise.
People interested in volunteering at the Inverloch Visitor Information Centre should contact Euan Wightman on (03) 5671 24444.

Moving in to the new Visitor Information Centre in Inverloch are (l-r) Euan Wightman, Visitor Services Officer, Paul Carroll, Volunteer at the Inverloch Centre, and Peter Francis, Visitor Services Manager.
