Yanlin Zhang, Postgraduate student in the School of Applied Sciences and Engineering will be presenting ‘Sediment Biogeochemistry in the Gippsland Lakes’ at the Applied Sciences Seminar on Wednesday, April 12 at 1pm. Yanlin will be discussing the distribution, species and bioavailability of cadmium, mercury and selenium in the Gippsland Lakes.

Associate Professor Tony Barnett and Ms Merylin Cross from the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the Gippsland Campus have received funding of $164,580 from the Department of Human Services for a project titled, ‘Building Capacity for Clinical Placements in East Gippsland.’ This is a collaborative project between three education providers, Monash, RMIT and East Gippsland TAFE and a major healthcare industry partner, Bairnsdale Regional Health Services. The project will increase the capacity of the Bairnsdale Regional Health Service and other healthcare agencies in East Gippsland to accommodate student placements from nursing and other health professional courses.

Gippsland School of Art and Design Lecturer, Susan Purdy is presenting a solo exhibition of her work at Amelia Johnson Contemporary Art, Hong Kong during April. The exhibition is part of an Austrade initiative, ‘Australia Art & About’ which showcases Australian artists in nine prestigious Hong Kong galleries simultaneously.

Monash University Gippsland Campus will have a significant presence in this year’s Innovation Festival. Events will include an open day at ASIRC (Australian Sustainable Industry Research Centre), a demonstration on the use of voice technology at the Gippsland Education Precinct, and a number of awards nights which will demonstrate partnerships between the University and the local community. The Gippsland Campus will also be hosting the quarterly Gippsland Public Affairs and Marketing Network Forum with a panel discussion on Innovation in Regional Communication featuring Gerard Callinan (ABC), Phillip Dearman (Monash) and Rachel Dawkins (DSE).

Lauren Densley, Business and Economics student at the Gippsland Campus enjoys her down time from studying by racing Sprintcars at the local speedways. Lauren won the speedway competition in 2004-2005 and finished third in her first attempt at a state championship. Lauren is also a Co-operative Education student.
