The Nationals will deliver a better deal for Latrobe Valley

Peter Walsh outlined the Liberal Nationals plans for managing Victoria’s booming population.

The Nationals candidate for Morwell Sheridan Bond welcomed Leader Peter Walsh to the Valley today.

Mr Walsh, Shadow Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Victoria, was the guest speaker at the Gippsland Regional Executive Forum where he outlined the Liberal Nationals plans for managing Victoria’s booming population growth in order to bring opportunity and investment to Regional Victoria.

"If the Liberal Nationals are elected to Government in November, we have a plan to help communities like the Latrobe Valley secure a bigger share of the State’s growth," Ms Bond said.

"It is great for the Valley that Peter is such a frequent visitor to our community and that he genuinely understand the issues we face like the huge impact of a power station closure and the importance of having government policies that actually support business and investor confidence in regional areas.

"We currently have a very Melbourne-centric state government but, if we’re elected, The Nationals policies will ensure the investment, the growth and the opportunity is spread throughout all of Victoria.

"Peter gave a great presentation on our vision for Victoria as a state of cities, rather than a city state and outlined some of the initiatives and commitments we have already announced like our Brighter Futures education package, our public transport initiatives, and decentralisation plans which will bring more public and private sector jobs to regions like the Latrobe Valley."

As well as the Gippsland Regional Executive Forum, Ms Bond and Mr Walsh also visited local businesses in Traralgon and Morwell, including Kiel Industries where they discussed the rising cost of electricity and gas and the impact of the Andrews’ Government’s ideological energy policies.

"Strong businesses and job opportunities are vital parts of ensuring regional centres are attractive for people to move to," Mr Walsh said.

"A Liberal Nationals Government will ensure that we have the right policy settings in place to drive new opportunities and investment across regional Victoria.

"My message to the Forum was that if we keep doing the same old things and taking the same approaches, we will get the same result – and that’s not good enough.

"The huge population growth in Melbourne compared to the very slow growth in regional Victoria is completely unbalanced and in the last four years Daniel Andrews has done nothing to address that."
