Who Will You Nominate For Latrobe City’S Australia Day Awards? Submissions Close Soon. 2011 Australian Of The Year. Nominations for Latrobe City’s prestigious Australia Day Awards are coming to a close with the last date for submissions being Friday 10 October 2011. By Latrobe City - 9th September 2011 - Back to News The presentation ceremony will take place on 26 January 2012 at Kernot Hall.
Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that the awards were all about celebrating our community, our people and our events.
"We are rightly proud of our outstanding citizens and community events or groups who are nominated and recipients of these outstanding awards each year. They deserve the recognition that goes with the awards. Many of these people put in countless hours of unpaid, voluntary work for the benefit of others in the community.
"The awards are a reflection of the great spirit that is alive and well in our municipality, so if you come across a Latrobe City resident who deserves recognition for their outstanding community service; or you attend a local event that surpasses your expectations, make sure you fill out a nomination form and offer that person or group the opportunity for the praise they deserve," Cr White said.
After nominations have closed on Friday 10 October this year, the applications will be verified by the Australia Day Committee and then considered by Council for a final decision. Nominations are now ongoing, so applications can be completed at any time for the following year’s awards.
Cr White urged the community to request a nomination form and show their appreciation for those who deserve it.
"We really do rely on the community to ensure that we award those hard-working, community-minded individuals or groups for the efforts the difference they make," Cr White concluded.
