Young People In The Morwell Electorate To Be Heard! On Local Radio Young people keen to explore a career in broadcast media can now access training and mentoring opportunities through their local radio station, thanks to the Victorian Coalition Government’s innovative Be Heard! program. By Russell Northe - 12th November 2013 - Back to News Member for Morwell Russell Northe announced today community radio stations can apply for the third round of Coalition Government’s Be Heard! grants.
Mr Northe said that eligible radio stations can apply for a $5,000 grant to deliver mentoring and training for young people aged between 12 and 25 years.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to learn about the radio industry, explore career paths in broadcast and production and have their voices heard across the airwaves," Mr Northe said
"Community radio stations can use the grants to train and mentor young people in radio broadcasting, to showcase and promote young people’s contribution to the community, and to establish formal partnerships with local education providers and community organisations."
Over the past two years, nineteen community radio stations from across Victoria received Be Heard! Grants.
Minister for Youth Affairs Ryan Smith said the Coalition Government has committed $200,000 over four years to Be Heard! to increase the participation of young people in community broadcasting.
"Getting started in radio broadcasting can be difficult, especially in rural and regional areas.
"Be Heard! allows young people to experience first-hand what it’s like to work in radio, learn about the industry and also explore career paths in broadcasting and programming.
"Through our Youth Statement Engage Involve, Create the Victorian Government supports a number of programs aimed at giving young people opportunities to get involved in their community and gain practical skills towards their chosen careers," Mr Smith said.
Grant applications are open until 12 December 2013. For more information about Be Heard! and how to apply for funding, please go to www.youthcentral.vic.gov.au/beheard
