Visitors to the Moe Outdoor Pool which opened on Saturday, have been impressed by numerous new facilities which are being provided through the hard work of the Committee, following receipt of a minor capital grant from Latrobe City Council.Working bees have resulted in the removal of the old Vale Street entry buildings allowing an additional recreation area to be created which includes a full size beach volleyball court. Deputy Mayor, Councillor Brendan Jenkins, said that the facilities had been worked upon by the committee for several weeks, with working bees being held nearly every evening until dusk in the past fortnight, in order to have the facility ready for use by the opening of the outdoor pool season. “This has been a tremendous example of local businesses working together with the Moe Outdoor Pool Committee and the Latrobe City Council, to provide citizens with first class facilities,” Cr Jenkins said. “We have been particularly impressed with the help from Quality Roads who provided operators and excavation equipment which made the whole project feasible. Similarly, we have received their assistance with the surveying requirements, and other companies have provided assistance with tasks such as boilermaking and welding. “The beach volleyball court is only part of the project though,” Cr Jenkins explained. “A picnic area is also being provided which will contain a barbecue facility, a children’s sandpit is being constructed, and more shade structures are being erected. “The Moe Outdoor Pool has been a hive of activity with volunteers demolishing the old structures and digging, gardening, and painting while preparing the new. Council itself has also been busy, repainting the toddlers pool,” Cr Jenkins said. “The shade structures were certainly a great hit with pool users following their installation by Council last year, and the grass planted in the family area on the highway side of the toddlers pool has knitted brilliantly into a lush mat that visitors will be able to enjoy as they relax poolside this year. “Volunteers on the project are being rewarded with free family day passes, and all those who have helped will be entered into a draw to win one of three special family season passes. It is a small reward for the time and effort that so many of our community have been prepared to make,” Cr Jenkins concluded. Media Enquiries: Cr.
