Vichealth Funding For Local Sport And Recreation Clubs Now Open Member for Morwell Russell Northe is encouraging sports and active recreation clubs in the Morwell electorate to apply for VicHealth grants of up to $3,000 each for essential sporting, and injury prevention and management equipment. By Russell Northe - 24th September 2014 - Back to News For over 26 years, VicHealth has provided small grants to over 10,000 community sport and active recreation clubs across Victoria. The Active Club Grants recognise the important role local clubs play in increasing physical activity and helping communities stay connected.
Mr Northe said these Active Club Grants aim to make it easier for clubs to fund items or equipment which help them to improve safety and to reach out to new participants.
"They also play an important role in supporting more Victorians to become active," Mr Northe said.
"This is increasingly important as we see the impact of a lack of physical activity in the growing numbers of people with chronic diseases and other health problems.
"To create greater opportunities for clubs to access Active Club Grants, VicHealth will run two rounds of funding."
Applications for the first round of Active Club Grants can be submitted now until 10 October 2014. The second round will open in January 2015.
VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said Active Club Grants helped clubs overcome two of the most common barriers to preventing people from taking part in sport and active recreation – cost and injury.
"These grants aim to make it a little easier for clubs to buy items or equipment to encourage people to join their club, and help them improve safety for those taking part," Ms Rechter said.
