Land has been secured for a new fire station in Morwell, providing a major boost to emergency services in the Latrobe Valley.
The station due to open in 2020. Ms Shing today also officially handed over the keys to the Morwell Fire Brigade’s newest appliance – an $800,000 heavy pumper. The pumper is part of a $10.9 million state-wide roll out of 12 heavy pumpers and three heavy tankers, which is being funded by the Andrews Labor Government. The heavy pumpers provide firefighters with the latest technology and equipment, including Emergency Medical Response equipment, road-crash rescue equipment and battery technology that reduces emissions and improves firefighter safety. The Morwell Fire Brigade was established in 1915, and currently has 113 members. It is an integrated brigade, comprising both volunteer and career firefighters.
