New Sign at Morwell’s Town EntranceNew decorative sign installed at the Commercial Road entrance to Morwell. By Portal Admin - 1st July 2020 - Back to News As part of the Future Morwell project, funded by Regional Development Victoria, a new decorative sign has been installed at the Commercial Road entrance to Morwell.
Latrobe City Councillor, Graeme Middlemiss, chair of the Future Morwell Committee, said the sign was the centrepiece to the ‘Town of Gardens’ vision.
"Along with the sign, the community will notice plantings and garden beds on Commercial Road, between Driffield Road and the Rose Garden. Lifting the aesthetic appeal of the CBD, entrances and the like reinforces the already strong sense of pride the Morwell community holds. Greenery, flowers, trees give the town a pleasant ‘village’ feel for visitors, residents and workers.
"The sign, in bold purples and blues, cannot be missed as you enter the town. What better welcome than a bright ‘Morwell’. Our town is already synonymous with the Centenary Rose Garden so the sign is really a centrepiece, a statement that Morwell is fresh, vibrant and inclusive," Cr Middlemiss said.
Works to improve the look of the freeway entrance and at Commercial Road is underway, with trees and shrubs planted; removal of damaged, stunted and dangerous vegetation and landscaping on Commercial Road west of the Jane Street overpass.
The $350,000 project funded by Regional Development Victoria and being delivered by Latrobe City Council, will also see a large sculpture erected near the freeway on the off-ramp.
Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Dan Clancey, said it was vital to creative a positive perception of our towns.
"First impressions last. With the vivid colours of this sign, the rose garden, the new landscaping, we’re showing people who visit that we care about our town and we want them to enjoy their stay, tell other people and return."
