‘Art after School’ program to feature at Gallery

Starting in April, the Latrobe Regional Gallery will be running an after school program, ‘Art after school’.

By Latrobe City Council - 29th March 2006 - Back to News

Participants aged 7 - 12 years will be able to learn to understand the techniques, processes, and range of effects that can be produced with readily available, inexpensive materials such as found objects, recycled items, and simple classroom art supplies, while also being introduced to more specialised, professional art materials.

Latrobe Regional Gallery director, Louise Tegart, said ‘Art after school’ is a progressive art program where participants move from a Level I (beginner) through to Level III (advanced) in a particular discipline, and receive a certificate after completing each level.

"The art disciplines include painting and sculpture. This certificate program is curriculum based and is aimed at developing technical skills and art knowledge," Ms Tegart said.

"Students will work in a small group setting with a qualified art teacher and gain exposure to original artworks within a gallery atmosphere. Each level is three-weeks long and students have the opportunity to exhibit their artwork in our end of year children’s exhibition in the Community Access Gallery

"Participants will need to enrol for a nine week course, there are no casual classes," Ms Tegart added.
