$75,000 Funding For Loch

The Loch community is the successful recipient of a $75,000 grant from the State Government’s Small Town Development Fund.

By South Gippsland Shire Council - 26th July 2004 - Back to News

The grant will be used to develop a central community park to link the town to the recreation reserve, the tourist railway station and the Lions Club market site by way of the underpass.

The physical works will include two all weather shelters, BBQs, playground facilities, shared pathways, landscaping, fences, picnic tables and seats, drinking fountain, lighting and signage.

"The project will provide much needed recreational facilities for the community and safe and attractive access to all the town’s amenities," " said the Mayor, Cr Heather Bligh.

"Loch is already an attractive tourism precinct with a delightful ambience, and with the community park visible from the new highway it should be effective in enticing travellers to break their journey and explore the town, adding an extra boost to the local economy."

Extensive consultation with the community, Vic Roads and Council has resulted in the Park site being purchased by Council, with a commitment from Vic Roads to prepare the site with clearing, drainage, landscaping and a main path.

" This grant is the direct result of community groups pulling together for the one goal," said Mr Andrew Nixon, Council’s Manager, Parks and Gardens, who submitted the grant application.

"The Loch Community Development Group, Loch Memorial Reserve Committee, Strzelecki Lions Club and the South Gippsland Tourist Rail have combined efforts to create a positive and productive team to address Loch’s needs and promote its future sustainability," he said.

The grant has been matched ‘dollar for dollar" by a combination of funding that includes $30,000 from Council, community fundraising and in-kind support.
