Farmer’s Market gets new venue

The Port of Sale is to be the new venue for the popular monthly Wellington Farmers’ Market, starting with this weekend’s event.

By Wellington Shire Council - 18th June 2004 - Back to News

Greenwattle Racecourse has provided a great spot for the market since its launch in November 2003, with the Port being identified as the ideal location to build on the market’s popularity and success, due to its central position in Sale.

Stage One of the Port’s redevelopment will see substantial improvements to the public open space in the area with the installation of 70 metres of boardwalks and 280 metres of paths making it an ideal venue for the market.

The Port works are nearly complete, but because the landscaping will take time to establish the market will initially be held in the adjacent Cullinan Park, in Canal Road, beginning this Saturday 19 June and commencing at 8.00am. It will feature new stalls including Baked Apples and poultry producers Red Shed, in addition to all the regular favourites selling the freshest local produce.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "The relocation of the Farmers’ Market to the Port of Sale site should prove very popular with stallholders and shoppers alike. We are pleased to attract events to the site which will build the profile for this wonderful new community facility."

For more information about the market or holding your own stall please telephone Farmers’ Market Coordinator Liz Whitehill on 5143 3225 or Wellington Shire Council’s Economic Development Officer Paul Telfer.
