Denis Walter returns to the stageAfter a long break from live performances, Denis Walter has returned to the stage and is enjoying sellout performances around Australia. Denis comes to Kernot Hall, Morwell on Tuesday 14 December 2004 at 11am. By Latrobe Shire Council - 7th December 2004 - Back to News Latrobe City’s Performing Arts and Venues Co-ordinator, Kathleen Roberts, said that thirty years ago Denis Walter burst onto the Australian entertainment scene as the young man with the big voice. "From his early days on Young Talent Time Denis carved out an impressive list of credits including many gold records and command performances and after 14 albums is a giant in the entertainment scene in Australia," Kathleen said.
"During the formative years of his career Denis had ambitions in two other areas of entertainment - radio and television news. After joining the Nine Network in 1988 doing the nightly Keno draw as well as performing on all the network shows, Denis was given the opportunity to get involved in radio. Initially, he worked in regional radio before heading to Melbourne where he dominated the morning slot for over three years. It was during this time that the Nine Network invited Denis to present weekend weather and hence another goal was finally starting to come to fruition.
"In 1993 Denis was presenting Win News to over a million people in Regional Victoria and Southern New South Wales. The news reading role proved to be a winner with an immediate ratings lift. In 1999, Denis joined 3AW presenting Saturday Night Live and guest hosting for his good mate Ernie Sigley.
"Though spare time is precious, Denis and his wife Annette, have a youth choir in Geelong and Ballarat which provides an outlet to pass on experience gained through a long, successful career," Kathleen added.
Tickets cost $15 per person and are available from Latrobe City’s Box Office in Traralgon, telephone 5176 3559; Latrobe Regional Gallery in Morwell, telephone 5128 5700; and Latrobe’s Citizen Service Centre in Moe, telephone 1300 367 700.
