Planned Activity Group brings young and old together

Poetry to bring together the young and old

By Portal Admin - 18th December 2017 - Back to News

Planned Activity Groups (PAG) run by Bass Coast Shire Council provide support for socially isolated frail older people and people with disability to access a wide range of community and social activities. A recent PAG activity encouraged interaction between young and old through the common interest of poetry.

On Wednesday 4 December, 20 students from The Phillip Island Village School joined a group of PAG participants for a morning tea and poetry reading.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, explained that the PAG program aims to prevent social isolation and maintain people’s independence through small planned activities.

"It’s wonderful to see this program involving our younger community members and creating harmony across the ages," Cr Rothfield said.

"It’s fantastic that students were able to develop their skills by reciting poetry they wrote as part of their studies, based on the theme of their school camp recently held at Bear Gully."

PAG Coordinator and teachers at the Village School agreed that the interaction between the generations and diverse age groups resulted in a positive atmosphere and great experience for all.
