In announcing the October Kia International Pro Tour at the Traralgon Tennis Centre, Latrobe City Mayor, Cr Lisa Price, said the event will offer the community a great opportunity to see some high quality tennis and future Grand Slam champions.

"All the participating competitors are focused on a career on the international stage of world tennis and are proving their potential to be at the top of their profession. Some past players include Lleyton Hewitt, Andrew Ilie and Scott Draper.

"These players come from all over the world, and while some will be competing in their first Pro Tour event with no world ranking others boast a ranking as high as 120 in the world," Cr Price explained.

The Traralgon Tennis Centre is one of 27 venues across Australia where this year’s Kia International Pro Tour will be held.

The Kia International Pro Tour is a Tennis Australia tournament. An integral part of Tennis Australia's player development program, the Kia Pro Circuit comprises seven months of men's and women's international tennis tournaments annually across Australia.

The Kia Pro Circuit offers valuable prize money and ranking points for hundreds of up-and-coming professional players in tournaments directly below the ATP Tour (men) and WTA Tour (women) events.

Most of Australia's current crop of top players competed on the circuit in the early stages of their careers.

The event brings a total of 115 players to the region, approximately 35% of the 115 players are predominantly from international destinations of Europe, USA, Africa, Asia and New Zealand. The remaining 65% of players are national, with all States and Territories represented at most of these events.

The tournament will attract, along with support groups and families, around 250 people to the region. "Apart from providing opportunities for our community to enjoy top class sport, competitors and visitors attending events such as the Kia International Pro Tour inject valuable additional spending into the local economy, and as such, Latrobe City welcomes and encourages these events to our region," Cr Price said.
