and the young artists who participated held their exhibition opening on Saturday 17 September.

In workshops led by the Gallery’s public programs officer, Nicole Brindley, participants explored a variety of techniques and processes relating to wire construction and sculpture as an art form.

"Over the nine week program the participants, aged between eight and thirteen, worked hard to create wire sculptural works, and their creativity, imagination and passion shows in their final artworks.

"They first created a wire foundation then used it as a basis for further experimentation; each participant has extended their ideas using such mediums as paper, fabric, mesh and acrylic paint to create the final works on display in the exhibition," Ms Brindley said.

Latrobe City’s arts director, Julie Adams, said that nurturing budding artists of all ages was a very important aspect of work for the Gallery.

"This exhibition is the culmination of the young artists’ effort and imaginations. They are to be congratulated on their achievements. We also commend parents on their support and commitment for their children’s artistic endeavours. The pride and interest shown by the parents and their young artists at Saturday’s opening is heart-warming for all concerned, and we encourage them to continue in 2012," Ms Adams said.

The Wound Up exhibition will be open until December 2011. The term one 2012 program will be available on latroberegionalgallery.com.au website soon.

The Creative Edge and Art After School workshops, and ‘The Lane’ exhibition space are proudly supported by IPR-GDF SUEZ Australia Loy Yang B.
