It was a hard task for this year’s judges of the Bass Coast Christmas Lights Competition. By Bass Coast Shire - 21st December 2005 - Back to News It was a hard task for this year’s judges of the Bass Coast Christmas Lights Competition. After much consideration by the Christmas Light Fairies, first place in this year’s Competition went to 20 Bent Street, Wonthaggi.
"We had over 30 entries and it was almost impossible to make a decision because the light displays and the creativity of the decorations were excellent," said Jenny Churchill, Bass Coast Shire Council’s Arts and Leisure Coordinator.
For the first time there were nominations for the "Best Street" and this went to Lyndhurst Street, Wonthaggi, with St Elena Court, Wonthaggi a very close second.
The People’s Choice Award was also popular this year with many nominations being received from across the Shire, and the winner being 38 Princeton Avenue, Cape Woolamai, who even included their dogs in the Christmas display!
Other winners were:
Second Prize – 34 Powlett Street, Inverloch
Second Prize People’s Choice – 4080 Bass Highway, Dalyston
Special Commendation -
· 17 Phillip Island Road, Newhaven
· 12 Vicars Close, North Wonthaggi
· 18 Henry Street East, North Wonthaggi
Novelty Award – 1 Leslie Avenue, Cowes, for having Santa’s reindeer’s names spelt out on the roof
"Thank you to everyone who participated and helped light up Bass Coast this festive season," said Ms Churchill.
