Business arts forum encourages strategic partnerships

Latrobe City Council’s Arts unit held a Business Arts Forum at the Moe Town Hall recently, to encourage local businesses and arts organisations to identify and form strategic partnerships with each other for long term mutual benefit.

By Latrobe City Council - 25th February 2004 - Back to News

Latrobe City’s Arts Innovation Facilitator, Lynette Raven said that the theme of the evening was ‘Meeting your Perfect Match’ and it was facilitated by Mr Hugo Leschen from the Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF).

Mr Leschen made special mention that of all the councils AbaF has worked with Latrobe City has achieved the highest attendances at these forums and potentially has the most significant number of partnerships to be made. Mr Leschen also praised the local model developed for the presentations and indicated that AbaF would consider adopting it for future forums.

"With over 45 people attending this event, there were representatives from a diverse range of groups including micro, small and large business, individual artists, community arts organisations, galleries, performing arts and festivals," Ms Raven said.

"The program involved 24 short presentations from speakers indicating to the audience, who they were; what their business or art form was; three things they felt they could offer a prospective business art partner and three things they would like from a business art partnership.

"By keeping the presentations to just three minutes, members of the audience could easily identify any links that might draw partners together. We wanted presenters and audience members to be able to instantly see the mutual benefits of forming a partnership of this kind," Ms Raven explained.

"It was great to see the audience members taking notes and during the refreshments, the participants could network and talk freely with presenters and peers. Feedback from participants indicated that by the end of the evening a number of partnerships had been identified and brainstorming had generated numerous ideas for future Business Arts projects," Ms Raven said.

Ms Raven added that Latrobe City would endeavour to promote and celebrate the successful Business Arts partnerships later in the year.
